On arrival at the airport, you’ll be warmly greeted and chauffeured to the luxurious Peninsula Hotel, wonderfully situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the heart of this vibrant and cosmopolitan city.

Day 2 – Temples, Klongs + Palaces

Today’s full-day sightseeing tour begins with the glittering halls and pavilions of the magnificent Grand Palace, including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and Coronation Hall. Then set out in a traditional motor launch to explore along the city’s canals past serene family homes and bustling temples. You’ll see the beautiful Royal Barges before disembarking to visit Wat Arun, the amazing Temple of Dawn. Accompanied by your own private guide, today’s sightseeing also includes Wat Pho, one of the city’s largest Buddhist temples. In addition to being one of the country’s oldest institutions of learning, this spectacular complex is home to beautiful murals, ornate architectural detail, and an enormous 150-foot long gilded image of a reclining Buddha. This evening you’ll embark on a casually elegant Sunset Champagne Cruise. As the sun dips toward the horizon and the city lights begin to twinkle, you’ll gain a delightful perspective of the Bangkok skyline and the landmarks that grace the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Day 3 – Ayutthaya… The Glory of Old Siam

Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the vast ruins of Ayutthaya bear witness to the splendor of a powerful kingdom that flourished here from 1350 until 1767. With your personal guide at your side to provide illuminating insight and information, you’ll explore the erstwhile capital of old Siam, gaining a uniquely intimate perspective as you travel by traditional tuk-tuk and long-tail boat. Among the venerated sites is Wat Phra Sri Sanphet; this was the holiest temple on the site of the ancient Royal Palace and its still intact stupas attest to Ayutthaya’s former glory. For lunch, we’ve arranged for you to dine at Sala Ayutthaya, a charming riverside restaurant that overlooks Phutthaisawan Temple, which was built in the 14th century on the southern banks of the Chao Phraya River. Back in the city, you’ll have time to refresh and relax at your luxury hotel before setting out to experience a bit of Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife. Begin with a refreshing libation at the Sky Bar. Set atop the 63-story Lebua State Tower, this enchanting al fresco rooftop bar has emerged as one of the most popular spots in the city – offering breathtaking views of the Chao Phraya River as it winds its way through the heart of Bangkok. Then sit down in the adjacent restaurant Sirocco, celebrated for its superb Mediterranean cuisine - prepared with the finest market-fresh ingredients and artfully presented. Savor the Tasting Menu of Chef de Cuisine Gonzalo Ruiz as you delight in the casually elegant ambience. After dinner, your private car and driver will take you back to the Peninsula Hotel. Meals B+L

Day 4 – Fly to Chiang Rai + The Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle

You’ll be chauffeured to the airport for your included flight into the Golden Triangle, the fabled region where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Burma come together. On arrival in Chiang Rai, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted to the luxurious Four Seasons Tented Camp, nestled in the deeply forested mountains of northern Thailand. With 581 square feet of living and sleeping space, your stylish under-canvas suite features a private deck with a custom-made wooden hot tub and views of the lushly forested mountains and countryside. This evening, head to the Burma Bar and enjoy complimentary cocktails as the sun sets over the pristine landscapes of the Golden Triangle. Dine tonight at Nong Yao; set in an enchanting open-air thatched-roof pavilion, the Four Seasons’ gourmet restaurant offers Thai, Laotian, Burmese and Continental cuisine. Meals B+L+D

Day 5 – Exploring the Golden Triangle from our Luxury Camp

Your stay at the Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle includes a variety of guided excursions designed to immerse you in the traditions and natural wonders that distinguish this remarkably beautiful region. This morning, you might explore the Golden Triangle, beginning with a cruise down the Mekong River onboard a traditional, custom-designed longboat. Delight in the lush landscapes and then explore by land, traveling by songthaew (the traditional taxi bus found throughout Laos and northern Thailand) and then by tuk-tuk to visit a local market and Chedi Luang – a revered ancient temple. Back at camp, you might indulge in your complimentary 90-minute treatment at the Four Seasons’ open-air spa, set amidst the leafy bamboo forests of the Golden Triangle. Indigenous mountain plants and local warming spices are utilized in many of the treatments offered by the Spa. Or you might just relax by the free-from pool - overlooking the Ruak River and landscaped with local granite boulders and teak logs. Meals B+L+D

Day 6 – Another Day at our Luxury Camp

This day is yours to enjoy the Four Seasons’ myriad activities. Of course, all of your meals and a complimentary bar with house wines and spirits are again included today. This morning you might join a foraging walk into the jungle; accompanied by Camp staff well-versed in the region’s botany, you’ll learn how to collect indigenous plants with nutritional and healing properties. Topped off with fresh produce from the Four Seasons’ organic garden, your herbal finds will be delivered to the kitchen where the Chef will create unique dishes that you can then enjoy with your fellow guests. You can also enjoy wine and cheese tasting at the Camp’s wine cellar, set in a Thai-style thatched-roof building, or visit the on-site Hall of Opium where interactive and multimedia exhibits explore the history of the Golden Triangle’s opium trade. In addition to these complimentary activities, optional excursions are also available. Jungle trekking, private dining experiences in a variety of venues, and guided day-long excursions to Laos and Burma are terrific ways to enhance your stay. Meals B+L+D

Day 7 – Visit Hill Tribe Villages + Continue to Chiang Mai

Check out after a final breakfast at our luxury camp and journey by chauffeured vehicle into the mountains to visit Yao and Akha hill tribe villages. With your personal guide offering insight and illumination, you’ll come to understand and appreciate their distinctive cultural traditions. Then continue to Doi Mae Salong, a lush mountain just a few miles from the Burma border. Here you’ll spend time in a community founded more than 50 years ago by members of the Nationalist Chinese Army who fled China after the Communist victory, Today, their descendents continue to operate a variety of business founded by these early settlers – including a tea plantation and a cooperative store selling home-made wines, medicinal herbs and other locally-farmed products. Get to know these ethnic Chinese residents and learn about their life and traditions here in northern Thailand. Continue your chauffeured drive through the mountain landscapes of northern Thailand to Chiang Mai and check in to the 5-star Dhara Dhevi. Set on 60 acres of beautifully landscaped tropical grounds, our luxury resort features private villa-style accommodations that blend traditional Lanna style with modern luxury. Meals B+L

Day 8 – Out and About in Chiang Mai

Popularly known as the Rose of the North, Chiang Mai is revered by the Thai people as the historic, spiritual and cultural heart of their country. This morning, you’ll delve into its rich heritage starting with a privately guided tour of Doi Suthep Temple. Built on a mountaintop in 1383, this revered landmark is still a working Buddhist monastery. Ascend the intricately carved Naga Serpent Stairway to explore the temple grounds and take in the majestic views as our in-the-know guide shares insight into the history of the temple and the modern-day life of its resident monks. Back in town, you’ll step aboard a trishaw for a guided exploration of Chiang Mai’s historic district, including its most important temples and the lively Muang Mai Market. Learning about the exotic fare for sale and mingling with city residents out to do their daily shopping offers a fascinating look into local life. After lunch, you’ll have time to enjoy the splendid setting of your luxury resort. Later this afternoon, we’ll take you to the home of the Raunkaew-Yanon family, whose ancestors settled here many generations ago. Surrounded by their orchards and herb gardens, their traditional Lanna-style teakwood home is the ideal setting for a hands-on cooking class in their kitchen. Afterwards, you’ll get to know your hosts even better as you sit to dinner with them on their second-floor terrace. At the close of this congenial evening, you’ll be chauffeured back to the Dhara Dhevi. Meals B+L+D

Day 9 – Arts + Rural Life of Chiang Mai

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a free morning to take advantage of Dhara Dhevi’s many resort offerings. You might indulge in a spa treatment, take a dip in the pool, or browse in their open-air shopping village, home to more than 20 inviting boutiques. In the afternoon, we’ll take you to a local ceramics studio to watch skilled artisans at work as they create beautiful pieces of jade green celadon – delicately crackled yet surprisingly strong. Then sit down to a delightful al fresco lunch overlooking verdant paddy fields. Afterwards, you’ll tour the farm and gardens, learning about the many species of tropical plants and flowers. If you wish, you can even try your hand at planting rice seedlings or harvesting this important staple. This evening, you’ll enjoy the classic Thai dishes and Lanna-style cuisine of Le Grand Lanna, an exceptional restaurant here at the Dhara Dhevi. Meals B+L+D
